KUCHING: This year’s Avon Malaysia’s Kiss Goodbye to Breast Cancer (KGBC) Campaign 2013 has taken a more aggressive stance in educating women on the importance of breast cancer screening as part of a healthy lifestyle.
As such, Avon geared up and launched the first nationwide campaign which kicked started nationwide yesterday.
The social responsibility by Avon Malaysia began way back in 1994 when it launched the Early Breast Cancer Detection campaign, also known as Kebal, and was renamed to KGBC in August 2002.
“This year’s campaign is more aggressive with strategic collaboration with National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) and Mydin to prepare six buses nationwide for the mobile breast cancer awareness road tour,” said Avon Malaysia director of human resource Asia Pacific Erman Iswandi during the launch at Choice Supermall in Jalan Semariang here yesterday.
He added that the fun road tour will be carried out simultaneously via six different buses nationwide, including north, central south, east coast, Sabah and Sarawak. The unique buses are equipped with private rooms specially designed for clinical breast check, educational corner and registration counter for mammogram subsidy.
The bus will move to different locations every weekend this October. This year round, the fight against the number one women killer will continue with to create a new record in the Malaysia Book of Records for the Largest Mobile Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign.
Meanwhile, LPPKN State acting director Nor Azam Mohd Nor said that the risk of breast cancer increases with age, especially women who are menopause, never gotten pregnant before age 30, overweight and those who take a lot of food high in animal fats.
He said those at risk aged 40 to 70 can apply for mammogram subsidy programme by LPPKN which is free for women with household income RM5,000 and below, or RM50 subsidy for household income above RM5,000.
The roadshow is still on today (Oct 6) at Choice Supermall, then at Summer Mall from Oct 12 to 13, and Giant Tabuan Jaya from Oct 19 to 20, and moving on to Daesco Sibu from Oct 26 to 27 from 10am to 5pm on each weekend.
The campaign’s key objective is to empower women to improve their breast health while educating women on the importance of breast screening as part of a healthy lifestyle. It also aims to create awareness among women and to emphasise that one third of breast cancers are preventable and that regular screening save lives.
The highlight of the activity is the free clinical breast health check by professional medical team from LPPKN, to create awareness that breast cancer screening is a routine testing aim at detecting breast cancer at earlier stages of the disease. To encourage participation, Avon will be giving away attractive goodies to first 100 participants who get on board the bus and do their breast screening. Fifty participants who dress in pink will also win Best Dressed prizes.
Apart from that, there will be Charity Makeover, Pink Bazaar Charity Sales, Lucky Draws and free bra fitting education.
